Bishop of Gozo sends congratulations to Pope Benedict XVI

Mgr. Mario Grech, Bisop of Gozo, called on God’s blessing for His Holiness the Pope who celebrate’s his 83rd birthday today. He said that Life is always a motive to thank God, particularly in the case of the Pope who gives his life to Christ, the Church and humanity.

He said that It is encouraging that in these days of preparation for the visit of the Pope we see the growing enthusiasm in the diocese of Gozo. It was satisfying that in these days of preparation for the visit there was ever-growing enthusiasm in the Gozo diocese and around 100 priests from Gozo were to join the Pope in the celebration of Mass on the Granaries wile more than 1,000 pilgrims from the sister island were to be present for the Mass. This was besides the around 800 young Gozitans who were to be greeting the Pope at the Waterfront.

The Bishop thanked the Ministry for Gozo and Gozo Channel for offering the free ferry service from Mgarr to Masion and back for the Gozitan pilgrims.He said that he is convinced that the elderly and sick will be offering prayers and their sacrifices for the Pope.

Mgr. Grech gave his appreciation to the Gozitans who had worked hard over the past months to help with the celebrations taking place in Malta, they include, Dorienne Portelli, Richard Grech, Mro John Galea and Mario Abela, whose official logo was chosen for this visit.

The Bishop concluded by saying that he appealed to the Church in Gozo to call upon the protection of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu, especially through the Rosary.
