A medical teleconference was held this morning at Mater Dei Hospital between a team of medical experts from the Ministry of Health, and the team of medical experts caring for President George Abela in Shanghai, Ruijin Hospital.

The Maltese medical team spoke with President Abela directly, and also examined the results of the radiological investigations carried out after the accident.

President Abela fell and suffered a fracture of the transverse process of the L2 vertebra. This injury is associated with severe bruising and pain, and requires bed rest, immobilisation and pain relief.

Arrangements are being made for President Abela to be repatriated back to Malta as soon as possible.
