The San Lawrenz school garden was recently the venue for an unusual activity. As part of its campaign towards a better environment, the San Lawrenz Local Council together with the school organised an activity in which new olive trees were planted and also every schoolchild was given a plant for them to cultivate.

The aim of the activity is to generate in the children awareness for a better environment and also to teach them about the effects of climate change in everyday life. Alysia Cassar, who is currently studying climate change coordinated this activity. Alysia spoke about the importance for the children to be aware of this phenomenon which is changing everyones environment and lifestyle.

Another speaker was the Head of School, Mr Joe Xerri, who explained the school’s programme in the environmental sphere and said that this activity should lead to more similar projects.

The Mayor of San Lawrenz, Noel Formosa, was also present and praised the school for cooperating closely with the Local Council in this educational campaign. He said that the children are the best means to guarantee a better society in the future. He announced that together with the school, the local council intends to launch similar projects in the future.

At the end of the activity every class planted a tree as well as the individual plants belonging to the children.
