MaltaPost to commemorate World Cup 2010

The Philatelic Bureau of MaltaPost will be issuing a set of 2 stamps and a Miniature sheet commemorating the forthcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup. The set entitled 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP SOUTH AFRICA will be issued on the day of the opening match of the tournament on the 11th of June 2010. The FIFA World Cup will take place between the 11th of June and the 11th of July 2010 and will be hosted in South Africa.
The stamps and the Miniature sheet have been designed by a local artist Frank Azzopardi. The sheet depicts a spiral of the flags of nations where the competition was hosted in recent years on the €0.63 stamp and ending with the South African flag on the €2.50 stamp depicting Zakumi, the tournament’s mascot.
The stamps values €0.63 and €2.50 and measures 44.0mm x 31.0mm with perforation of 13.9mm x 14.0 (comb), while the Miniature sheet measures 130mm x 80mm. The stamp has been offset printed on Maltese Crosses watermarked paper by Printex Limited and will be available in sheets of 10.
The set, which is expected to be much sought by collectors, football enthusiasts and World Cup followers, will be available for sale on Friday, the 11th of June from all MaltaPost Branches in Malta and Gozo, and the Mobile Van.
