The stories covered in this weeks issue are:

1. The Catholic Action Movement officially launched its annual campaign towards a morally healthy environment at the church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, “Ta’ Hamet,” as part of the celebrations for the feast of the first apparition at Fatima.

During Eucharistic Adoration begun by the rector Mgr Carmel Hili, Ganninu Cremona recited a suitable poem of his and then together with Margaret Sultana gave some reflections about the theme. Netta Camilleri, Natalina Sultana, Kitty Scerri, Rita Said, Mary Farrugia and Carmen Galea continued with the Rosary, prayed for the clergy’s holiness. It was finally Antoine Vassallo’s turn who, being the tenth anniversary of the beatification of visionaries Rancisco and Giacinta, read out some reminescences by Lucia their companion and also a few quotes from the Pope’s visit taking place at Fatima.

The second part of the celebration consisted of Mass by Bishop Mario Grech, assisted by Mgr Hili and Fr Saviour Sultana. In the homily, Mgr Grech emphasized the need to be able to feel Christ’s presence by strenthening our faith through our whole life, prayer being essential. The destruction of so many families is the result of “killing off” God from our existence. So may problems around us are the direct effect of sin.

The occasion then continued with a procession with the “diocesan” statue of Our Lady of Fatima, concluded with a eucharistic celebration back in church.

2. Tuesday 1st June, a ceremony was held at ITS Gozo, where Mr. Bill Kendrew awarded a trophy and two medals to the “Best Cook and Serve Team”.

Mr. Kendrew is a renound chef, known all over Europe . He took interest in in the institute when he saw the high standards and the hard work and dedication put in by students. Guido Debono, Chairman of the Malta Chefs Society attended for this award. Also members of the GTA, from the ministry for Gozo and ETC Gozo attended the event. Ms. Fleur Attard and Mr. Bill Kendrew addressed the students and the guests present, saying that now, the current students will be promoting our island through their culinary arts.

The awards were given to Jeanette Azzopardi and Loiuse Tuema, of Xaghra, for the best student chef and the best restaurant server, respectively.

3. The altar painting ‘THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION’ (year 1905) by F. Venuti at the church of St. Anthony, at Ghajnsielem, Gozo, is undergoing conservation and restoration. The work is being carried out by the restorer Manwel Zammit of Zejtun.
