Malta Cricket Association Summer league now underway

On Saturday the Malta Cricket Association Summer league commenced. Marsa C.C played Krishna C.C in the division 1 encounter. The other two teams are Melita C.C and Overseas C.C. The division 2 teams are Gozo C.C, Mellieha C.C, Betfair C.C and RMG CC.
For the people in Gozo – please note the first game Gozo C.C are playing is on the 8th of August and players are needed. Please contact secretary@maltacricket.biz.
The Marsa team batted first. Malcolm Crabbe and Chris Naudi opened the batting. Crabbe was first to go being deceived by a Kevin Krishna delivery which bowled him. He made one run. Naudi did not last much longer being caught by Spiteri for seven runs from five balls faced. Nowell Khosla batted well and retired after facing thirty balls (local rule) and made twenty three runs. Mark G.Sacco scored eighteen runs and was stumped brilliantly by John Grima after chasing a wide delivery.
The innings of the day came from Ronnie Sacco who smashed thirty three runs from twenty four balls including three fours. He also was stumped. John Rusher scored six runs and played an impressive cover drive. Rusher was also stumped giving Grima three stumpings for the game. Luke Mercieca playing in his first league match and first game in a very long time did not worry the scorers. Sarfraz Ali scored seven runs before being bowled. Thomas Rusher playing in his first ever game of cricket, who has been attending the academy for the past couple of years scored two runs and lasted for two overs against good bowling. He was run out on the last ball of the innings. Pierre Naudi remained not out. The Marsa team totalled 119 runs from their twenty overs. Frank Spiteri produced one of the best bowling figures taking four wickets for twenty seven runs from five overs. Kevin Krishna,John Farrugia and Robert Krishna took a wicket each. Krishna needing a run a ball to win the game.
What happened in the second innings would have only been dreamt by the winning team. The Krishna side were bowled out for seventeen runs. Extras was the highest score with five. John Grima was four runs not out and John Farrugia also made four. Frank Spiteri scored two runs. Robert Krishna and Kevin Krishna scored a run each while Kevin Azzopardi, Sam Aquilina and Adam Krishna did not worry the scorers.
Spiteri’s performance with the ball was great but was bettered by Ronnie Sacco who caused havoc to the top order batsmen and finished with five wickets for six runs from five overs. Malcolm Crabbe and Chris Naudi took a wicket each. The Marsa team earned eight points from the win while Krishna earned one point.
Next weekend Marsa C.C play new touring team Lancing Manor C.C from the U.K.
