Gieh Ghawdex 2009 winners received by President Abela

The winners of last year’s Gieh Ghawdex awards were recently received by HE the President of the Republic, Dr George Abela, at San Anton Palace. It was one of the first public activities of the President after the resumption of his public duties.
The Gieh Ghawdex is an award given by the Circolo Gozitano to all those persons, organisations and commercial firms who have left their mark on Gozo’s social, political, cultural and economic life. It is also awarded to Gozitans who have distinguished themselves in Maltese public life.
Last year’s Gieh Ghawdex was awarded to His Lordship Archbishop Emeritus Mons Giuseppi Mercieca, Mr. Franco Masini and the firm Magro Bros. (Foods) Limited.
During the meeting with the President, H.L. Mons Mercieca, Mr. Masini and Mr. Michael Magro, representing Magro Bros (Food) Limited were accompanied by the President of the Circolo Gozitano, Dr Joseph Ellis and Committee Member, H.E. Dr Ray Bondin.
During their hour-long audience, a discussion was held about the state of Gozo today and what can be done to improve its social and economic situation.
