In the second quarter, sea transport between Malta and Gozo registered increases in commuters and vehicles, and a decrease in trips.

In the second quarter this year, commuters between Malta and Gozo increased by 4.7 per cent, totalling 1,055,740 when compared to the corresponding period in 2009. Moreover, the number of vehicles carried by scheduled vessels went up by 1.8 per cent, to 279,35. June saw the biggest number of commuters – 372,194 or 35.3 per cent of the total.

The number of trips in the second quarter stood at 4,892, a decrease of 0.4 per cent over the corresponding period last year. The majority of trips were recorded in June – 1,697 or 34.7 per cent of total trips for the period under review.
