Marsa C.C play Stockport Grammar School for the 10th time

Over the weekend and during the course of last week the Marsa C.C played against tenth time returning team Stockport Grammar School.

On Saturday the Marsa team won the toss and elected to field first. The Stockport batsmen made a reasonable score of 171 runs from their allotted forty overs. Tom Isherwood top scored with fifty runs. Dave Wright scored forty eight runs and Mark Isherwood played a good innings with thirty eight runs. Andy Lenard was the main wicket taker with two while Kevin Krishna , Robert Krishna and Mike Caruana all took a wicket each. The Marsa reply had a very shaky start losing three wickets for thirty seven runs.This brought together Glen Tavilla and Derek Ali to the crease. Together they made the required runs Tavilla played a silent role making thirty three runs not out giving strike to his partner who was in fine form hitting thirteen fours and four sixes on his way to ninety eight runs not out. Josh Jones was the main wicket taker for his side with two.

On Sunday Stockport won the toss and they elected to field first. They bowled out the home side for 132 runs, with Nowell Khosla top scoring with thirty nine runs. Peter Dunbavin scored twenty five runs and Javed Shah seventeen runs from the total. Josh Cheyne was the main wicket taker with three while Josh Jones and Matt Spencer took two wickets each. The Marsa team had the visitors in real trouble at forty three runs for five wickets. Dave Wright had other ideas and steered his team to victory making thirty five runs not out. Earlier Tom Isherwood had made thirty seven runs. Andy Naudi and Ronnie Sacco were the main wicket takers with two each.

Last Tuesday the first game was played where Stockport batted first in a twenty over contest. They totalled 122 with Tom Isherwood and Dave Wright both top scoring with thirty two runs. For the Marsa team six bowlers took a wicket each. In reply the home team made the required runs with one ball to spare. Nowell Khosla made fifty six runs and Andy Naudi made twenty two runs not out. For Stockport Tom Isherwood was also their top wicket taker with three.

Last Thursday the visitors again batted first and were bowled out for 126 runs from thirty one overs. Again Tom Isherwood (clearly their best batsman on this tour) made fifty three runs. The Marsa bowlers bowled very well with Glen Tavilla taking four wickets, Darren Grech and Martin Llewlyn taking two wickets each. For the Marsa team who made the required runs from thirty one overs, Kevin Azzopardi made fifty three runs and Jamie Butler scored thirty seven runs.

The Marsa team win the series three to one.

Next weekend the Summer League continues. On Saturday Division 1 – Marsa C.C plays Melita C.C at the Marsa cricket ground. On Sunday RMG CC plays Melllieha CC at the Safi Cricket ground, both games start at 10 30am.
