GTA reiterates complaints against summer construction workThe Gozo Tourism Association has today repeated the fact that it deplores the way that construction work is taking place over the summer period on Gozo and especially in the popular tourist resorts.

The Association said that it acknowledges the difficulties around the commencement of works on the Xlendi Road, however it is an undeniable fact that the Xlendi Restaurants and other tourist establishments in this resort are being effected negatively by these works.

“Other construction works are taking place in the only parking space available in Marsalforn. This ill-timed construction of the parking retaining wall is causing a lot of inconviences to the numerous selfcatering apartments around the area. Furthermore such works are limiting the parking spaces in this parking, adding more pressure on parking facilities in this highly frequented resort on Gozo,” the GTA said.

The Gozo Tourism Association said that it always commends and welcomes the upgrading and the maintainance of Gozo’s key tourism zones, however timings of such projects should be properly scheduled, keeping in mind the heavy Gozitan reliance on tourism. Whatever the reason, such contruction works should never commence at the beginning or during the summer season.

The GTA concluded by saying that it is the their belief that government both central and local should be more sensitive to the concerns of the Gozitan Tourism operators whose sustainability depends totally on the business activity generated during the short summer season.
