LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL … and worth living! This is the motto that from the start motivated the pioneers of the OASI Foundation and set them in motion to the creation of a social agenda that would always consider the meaning of prevention in its global approach towards ultimate promotion of health and happiness.
The OASI Foundation is an organisation based in Gozo, which caters for all Prevention, Intervention and Treatment Services in relation to drug abuse and addiction. Our services are spread all over Malta and Gozo in order to fight the war against drugs. The value that prevention is better than cure is very predominant within the OASI Foundation, in fact one of its departments is the Primary Prevention. This department offers services to children, youths and the community at large to inform them of the negative effects that drugs can have on their physical, mental and social lives.
A good prevention programme must seek to influence society, especially the new generations, in a positive manner regarding one’s lifestyle. Trusting in this conviction, the OASI Foundation includes alternative leisure and entertainment activities as an integral part of its strategy for a prevention program. By uncovering personal abilities, an individual would be exploring workable alternatives in his/her life. In other words the promotion of alternative, healthy reaction free from substances by their nature can do a lot of prevention.
Throughout the year the OASI Foundation organises various activities for the society at large. Currently the Primary Prevention Team is working upon Youth of the Year, which is a national activity, were the aim is to initiative and publicly acknowledge the work done by youths through their various voluntary services for the good of others. All organisations, clubs and agencies involved in voluntary work in the community can nominate their members, who fall into the ages between 16 and 30, for this prestigious award.
All persons nominated will be personally and publicly acknowledged for their contribution and will be presented with a commemorative trophy and certificate. The Award Giving Ceremony will end with the presentation of the Youth of the Year Shield to one of the nominees who will be chosen from among all those nominated to represent officially all the young volunteers in our society for the following 12 months.
Those organisations who are interested to nominate their youths for this Award are requested to download a copy of the regulations and official nomination form from the OASI Foundation official website; www.oasi.org.mt.
