Gozo’s Astra Folk Group to take part in Folk Faro festival

The Astra Folk group has said that it will be be representing the island of Gozo as a Mediterrean group in the eighth edition of the Folk Faro- International Folklore City of Faro, which will be held in Faro, the capital of the Algarve in Portugal from the 21st to the 31st of August 2010.

The organisers of the event said that they described it as an honour to be able to welcome the Astra Folk Group, who will be the first Maltese group to their Festival.

Since the CIOFF Congress in November 2005, Folk faro is certified as a CIOFF Festival. This international event is looking to promote and share the folklore and traditions of different nations to strengthen the friendship and the identity of each country. It includes a large variety of activities, such as open-air performances, gala shows, international parades, “Folk-Bar,.” children’s entertainment, dance workshops, among others.

The Group will be lead by Mr Joseph A Borda, Mr Anton Zammit and Mr George Farrugia, who are Directors in the Astra Folk Group.

This year the Astra Folk Group are also celebrating the 40th anniversary since it’s foundation as a Maltese Folk Group.
