In June 2010, total arrivals in collective accommodation stood at 128,090, up by 17.7 per cent over 2009. Similarly, total guest nights increased by 15.9 per cent, with an average length of stay of 6.0 nights.

National Overview

Non-resident arrivals and nights both registered increases, while the average length of stay for non-residents stood at 6.5 nights, down by 0.2 of a night when compared to 2009. Resident arrivals and nights registered minor drops over last year, while the average length of stay remained unchanged at 2.2 days.

During the month under review, the overall net occupancy rate in collective accommodation establishments stood at 66.9 per cent, a rise of 9.6 percentage points when compared to 2009. An increase in the net use of bed-places was noted in all hotel categories. The non- resident occupancy rate stood at 64.5 per cent, while that for residents dropped slightly.

Regional Overview

In June, total arrivals and nights in Malta both increased over last year and were estimated at 120,549 and 744,320 respectively. The occupancy rate was calculated at 67.3 per cent. With regard to Gozo and Comino, increases were noted in arrivals and nights, while the average length of stay dropped by 0.4 of a night. The latter was attributed to a lower average length of stay for non-residents.

Capacity

On a national level, the overall net supply of bed-places dropped by 250 over last year. Decreases in bed-places were noted both in Malta and in Gozo and Comino. The net number of bedrooms for June declined by 184.
