Alternattiva Demokratika local councillors in Attard and Sliema Ralph Cassar and Michael Briguglio have commented on an email sent to local councils by the Hunters federation ‘warning’ councils about seminars for children, which according to FKNK are going to be organised by Birdlife Malta ‘in the coming months.’

Ralph Cassar, AD Attard Councillor said, “The tone of the email from FKNK is unacceptable. What are we supposed to teach children? To shoot at birds or to appreciate them in a different manner? I believe that such educational seminars should take place since I want tomorrow’s generations to learn to appreciate wildlife in a positive way. I support Birdlife Malta should they decide to go forward with this positive project in Attard.”

Sliema AD Councillor Michael Briguglio said, “It is up to Sliema’s elected councillors to decide what educational programmes are organised in collaboration with the council. As a green councillor I support Birdlife’s educational activities, and I am sure that may Sliema residents have the same opinion.”

AD MEP candidates Arnold Cassola and Yvonne Ebejer Arqueros reiterated AD’s position about spring hunting, “It is crystal clear that hunting in spring is unaccaptable. There are still candidates from the PN and PL who are saying that either the government has obtained some kind of concession and that things will change. This is simply not true and deceitful.” Arnold Cassola added, “The inconsistencies regarding the issue by the other parties is incredible.” Yvonne Ebejer Arqueros said. “History repeats itself in each and every election. AD is consistent and clear about the issue.”

To The Majors of Local Councils

Ms/Sir We have been informed that in the coming months BirdLife Malta are planning to hold seminars for children, and that these will be held in various Local Councils’ Halls.

Our Federation will closely monitor these events in the hope that these only contribute towards education in ornithology and habitat conservation in general.

If however, these turn out to be the usual misinterpretation and misrepresentation of material facts and anti-hunting campaigns similar to the BirdLife Malta ‘brainwashing’ events as have already been witnessed in schools, then the Federation for Hunting & Conservation – Malta (FKNK) will act accordingly.
