After a double presentation of Leone Goes Pop (3rd edition), in Victoria’s it-Tokk and Marsalforn Bay, the Leone Band is ‘popping’ with its pop concert at the Palace courtyard in Valletta, on September the 25th.

The concert, kicking off at 7pm as part of the Notte Bianca events, is being supported by the Parliamentary Secretariat for Consumers, Fair Competition, Local Councils and Public Dialogue within the Office of the Prime Minister.

The 3rd edition of Leone Goes Pop was put up for the first time on June 6th , to an audience beyond any expectation, in Victoria’s main square. It was then repeated in Marsalforn, on July 20th , generating €1500 in aid of Puttinu Cares Children’s Cancer Foundation. That production managed to stun everyone, as it not only included mock strip tease dancers and Members of Parliament wearing all kinds of hats, but it also included a real-life vessel making a grand entrance in Marsalforn’s menqa as dancers perched as sailors marching to the rhythms of The Village People. This was just before the concert took a most welcomed twist to celebrate the Spanish world cup victory as children cheered with the Spanish colours to a thematic striking conclusion.

This second repeat in the Presidential Palace’s courtyard will see none of the Spanish colours and boats. Yet it shall be graced with the voices of Nadine Axisa and Mario Caruana who shall re-interpret some all time favourites like Unchained Melody, Strangers in the night, New York, One Moment in Time and Heal the World. The line up shall also include some of the most known songs by Eros Ramazzotti, Elton John, Michael Jackson and The Village People. Following this year’s edition of Rockestra, which featured songs by The Tramps (arr. by Josef Debrincat), the Leone Band will perform again, by popular demand, The Best of The Tramps! – a medley of The Tramps’ Inti Djamant, Sinjur Gib il-Paci and Xemx.

While entrance is free of charge, and seating is limited, the Leone Band requests the general public to be seated 10 minutes prior to the commencement of the event which is scheduled at 7pm.

This year as the previous one LEONE BAND of Victoria Gozo performed in the yard at the President’s Palace in Valletta. The Leone band club is the owner of the Aurora Opera House, one of the two Opera Houses in Gozo.
