The Prime Minister has accepted the resignation of Parliamentary Secretary, Dr Chris Said. Dr Said, offered his resignation after a court decision this morning on a complaint made against him in regard to the custody of a child.

Dr.Said was appearing as counsel for the mother in the custody case which took place in January 2007.

Earlier today, the Court of Appeal, presided by Judge Michael Mallia, ordered the Commissioner of Police to institute criminal proceedings against Dr Said for perjury.

The Prime Minister said in his letter to Dr Said, that while he accepted the resignation to enable him to devote all his attention to the defence of the case, he hopes that the swift conclusion of the legal process that Dr Said is facing would allow him to reappoint him to the office which he had held with so much energy and dedication.
