The Employment and Training Corporation (ETC) has launched Youth Days, which will start next Tuesday, the 19th of October and finish on Sunday, the 24th of October, at the Floriana granaries. Present for the official launch of Youth Days, in St Georges Sq, Malta, was Clyde Puli, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport, he said that the government was, as always, working closely with the ETC with the aim to create more job opportunities. He said that in 2010, there had been a 3% decrease in people registering for work between the ages of 16 and 29.

The Youth Day in Gozo will be held on Friday, the 29th of October, in Victoria. Youth Days are part of the ETC project co-financed by the European Social Fund ESF, Youth Employment Programme (YEP).

Fur the Youth Days, there will be 7 different tents on site, each focused on specific activities, including a climbing wall, ropesports, technology and creative arts. Young people visiting the tents will be given the opportunity to get advice regarding taking part in successful interviews, the job market and professional requirements. They will also be able to obtain information on services offered by YEP, mainly services of career guidance as well as the services of a professional psychologist and occupational therapist.

Other tents will be devoted to a library and ICT where young people will be in direct contact with a number of writers, illustrationists and IT specialists. There will also be displays of various genres of books as well as a number of notebooks that participants can use during the Youth Days. There will be entertainment by local bands, jazz dance groups, break dancing, jugglers and popular DJ’s, along with sports entertainment.

The main purpose of the Youth Employment Programme is to help young people make informed choices through increased access to information on the services of career guidance that are available to them, training courses and the labour market. The programme aims to facilitate youth participation in training after compulsory education and providing them with the motivation and skills needed to enter, maintain and move forward in the working world. Moreover, YEP will create more awareness among young people on the rights and responsibilities at work.
