Bishop Emeritus H.L. Mgr Nicholas J. Cauchi has passed away this morning at the Mater Dei Hospital, at the age of 81,

Bishop Cauchi was born in Gharb, on the 2nd of March 1929 and ordained a priest at the Cathedral, on the 29th of March 1952. He was consecrated as Bishop of Vicus Augusti and Apostolic Administrator for Gozo on the 9th of April 1967, the second Sunday after Easter in Victoria, at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral, by Martin J. O’Connor, Archbishop of Laodicea, Apostolic Nuncio for Malta; assisted by Salvatore Nicolosi, Bishop of Lipari Isles, and by Francesco Ricceri, Bishop of Trapani. He was then Elected Bishop of Gozo on the 20th of July 1972.
