Will new Gozo fast ferry terminal canopy truly protect passengers - TaboneThe Opposition Spokesperson for Gozo Frank Anthony Tabone has highlighted a number of points regarding the new canopy project at the Fast Ferry terminal in Mgarr, Gozo, which, he said, ”remains incomplete.”

He said that ”it is true that the new canopy is aesthetically more pleasing than the previous one. However, given that public funds were spent on it, could it not have been built in a way that truly protects passengers from the elements, especially the rain?”

Tabone pointed out that on Friday morning – particularly during the 7:45 am trip, which is packed with workers and students – passengers ended up completely drenched.

”Even before work on this project began, I drew Minister Chris Bonett’s attention to the matter in Parliament and asked him directly whether the canopy would be enclosed and equipped with air conditioning -To this day, I have received no answer,” said the Gozo Opposition Spokesperson.

Frank Anthony Tabone concluded by urging the Minister ”to immediately assess what remains to be done so that the work is carried out properly, once and for all, for the benefit of everyone.”

It was at the end of August that Minister for Sustainable Mobility Chris Bonett, announced that work was underway to ”improve facilities for those using the fast ferry service.”
