The Malta Environment and Planning Authority in collaboration with the Malta Resources Authority has prepared the Environmental Report as part of the Strategic Environmental Assessment of the National Water Catchment Management Plan (WCMP) for the Maltese Islands. The WCMP is a requirement of the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) (2000/60/EC) and was launched for public consultation in May 2010.

The Draft Environmental Report describes and evaluates the likely significant effects on the environment of the implementation of the WCMP and reasonable alternatives in line with the SEA Directive (2001/42/EC) as transposed into national legislation by the Strategic Environmental Assessment Regulations 2005 (L.N. 418 of 2005 as amended by L.N. 327 of 2008).

This report is being issued for consultation in terms of Regulations 19 and 20 of LN 418/2005 and has been uploaded on MEPA’s website (http://www.mepa.org.mt/topic-waterpc). The public is being invited to submit its comments on the Draft Environmental Report by Wednesday 15th December 2010.
