Administrative records held at the Employment and Training Corporation indicate that the number of persons working on a full-time basis in July 2010 increased by 720 when compared to the previous year.

In July 2010, the number of registered full-time employed persons stood at 146,431 whereas the number of registered unemployed stood at 6,828. The number of full-time employed increased by 720, while those registering as unemployed decreased by 693. Over the preceding month, the number of persons employed on a full-time basis went up by 741, while the registered unemployed increased by 53.

In the twelve months to July 2010, the number of persons employed on a full-time basis in the private sector rose by nearly one per cent. Increases in the private sector were registered in real estate, renting and business activities (NACE 70-74, +1,198) and other community, social and personal service activities (NACE 90-93, +481). The manufacturing industries (NACE 15-37) also increased their registered employment levels by 169 when compared to the preceding year. The main increase in manufacturing jobs was registered in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (NACE 24) and manufacture of rubber and plastic products (NACE 25). On the other hand, decreases were registered in construction (NACE 45, -559), transport, storage and communication (NACE 60-64, -278) and hotels and restaurants (NACE 55, -206).

In the twelve months to July 2010, the number of persons employed on a full-time basis in the public sector went down by 146. State-owned manufacturing concerns (NACE 15-37) and electricity, gas and water supply (NACE 40-41) shed 313 and 132 persons respectively. In contrast, persons employed in education (NACE 80) and health and social work (NACE 85) increased by 121 and 120 respectively. Part-time Employment

According to records held at ETC, total part-time employment increased by 2,920, or 5.9 per cent, over July 2009. The number of part-timers also holding a full-time job went up by 959, and part-timers whose job was their primary occupation by 1,961.

The annual turnover in part-time employment mainly affected hotels and restaurants (NACE 55), with an addition of 741 persons on their books.
