The Office of Fair Competition has ruled that the Liquigas policy to require a receipt on refunds for gas cylinders is not intended to hinder competition.
The Office said that such a procedure for refunds had been in place since the 1970s, when Enemalta was the supplier of gas cylinders, and that the deposit, which is currently €25, was initially only Lm0.50 (€1.16).
The statement went on to say that consumers had the right to receive a refund on gas cylinder deposits and would receive the deposit paid if they presented their receipts. However if a receipt is not produced, Liquigas would voluntarily repay consumers €5.
