Administrative records held at the Employment and Training Corporation indicate that the number of persons working on a full-time basis during August 2010 increased by 1,515 when compared to the previous year.

According to ETC records, the number of full-time employed persons during August 2010 stood at 146,764 whereas those registering for work amounted to 6,589. When compared to the previous year, there was an increase of 1,515 persons in full-time employment, while the registered unemployed dropped by 854.

Persons employed on a full-time basis in Malta increased by 1,480 or 1.1 per cent over the previous year. Real estate, renting and business activities and other community, social and personal service activities continued to register growths in employment of 1,497 and 508 respectively. Further increases were recorded in education and health and social work activities.

On the other hand, construction public administration and defence and hotels and restaurants saw drops in full-time employment.

Persons employed on a full-time basis in Gozo increased by 35 or 0.4 per cent when compared to August 2009. Among the economic activities which have seen an increase in full-time employment, there were manufacturing real estate, renting and business activities and transport, storage and communication.

Conversely, economic activities which have seen a decrease in full-time employment were mainly construction and agriculture, hunting and related service activities.
