The Chapel Choir of Abbots Bromley School for Girls, Staffordshire, England, will be performing a choral concert of sacred choral favourites at St George’s Basilica in Victoria.

Abbots Bromley School for Girls, a boarding and day school situated in the village of Abbots Bromley, Staffordshire, has a long established choral tradition. The school itself is one of the oldest girls’ schools in the UK.

It was in 1955 when the choir became the first girls’ choir to sing at the local Lichfield Cathedral. As well as providing the music for Chapel Services and important events in school, the choir has travelled widely. Over the years performances have taken place in Notre Dame, Paris, Cologne and Bonn Cathedrals, St Peter’s Rome, the Cathedral of St. Patrick, New York, Barcelona Cathedral, Montserrat Monastery and most recently, Grace Cathedral, San Francisco and the Carmel Mission in California. The choir also has the particular honour of regular live performances on BBC radio’s Daily Service, one of the longest running radio programmes in the world.

The total membership of the choir is over 60 members, with a Chamber Choir of 20 singers, Cantoria, drawn from the main group. The repertoire of the choir is wide-ranging; anything from singing Plainchant in School Chapel to modern secular songs.

On its visit to Malta the choir has numerous performances at prestigious venues. As well as the concert at St George’s Basilica, the choir is singing at St. John’s Co-Cathedral and Balzan Parish.

The concert at St George’s will take place at 8pm on Saturday, the 19th of February. Admission is free and everyone is warmly invited to attend.
