The 18th Annual World Children’s Picture Contest was organised by the IE-NO-HIKARI Association in Japan. This contest has been orgainsed since 1993 with the aim of creating friendship among children all over the world as well as to assist in the development of their different personalities. This year’s theme was The Environment and participants were asked to draw pictures in relation to Agriculture, Farming, Nature or even people within the Family Environment.
This competition was open to all children between the ages of 6 and 15 from all over the world. This year, 27,840 children and young people from 59 different countries participated in this competition. 200 children and young people were announced on the Official website of the competition: http://www.ienohikari.net/zugacon/english. 20 were given the Gold Prize, 40 were given the Silver Prize and 60 were given the Bronze Prize. An Honourable mention was given to 80 participants including Alessia Formosa from Malta. Alessia, a 12 year old girl, who submitted a picture entitled the Wild Deers.
All the awarded entries will be brought together in a commemorative book which will then be disseminated.
Mrs. D’Amato, the Commissioner for Children, would like to congratulate all the Maltese participants for their outstanding work and she would also like to encourage children and young people to continue to participate in such competitions.
