Gozo-based designer/makers, Jackie Roberts and Rachel Robinson, have been awarded runner-up prizes in the Malta Crafts Council and Ministry of Finance, Economy and Investment ‘Premju Gieh l-Artigjanat 2010.’
This is the first time the competition was organised to reward those institutions, businesses and individuals who have promoted Maltese crafts and to recognise individuals for their innovation and creativity.
In the category for Individual Artisans Jackie was selected for her hand-crafted Mediterranean fish in metal and Rachel (trading under Prickly Pear Designs/PPD) for her silver lace jewellery collection.
At a ceremony held last Friday, the 18th of February, at the Corinthia St George Hotel, they were each presented with a cash prize, trophy and a certificate by Dr Jason Azzopardi, Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and Land.
Both women said that they were honoured to receive the awards which will encourage them to further invest in their businesses and continue their creative development.
