The Gozo Snooker Club takes part in Valletta tournament

The Gozo Billiards & Snooker Club, within the Leone Band Club, participated in the annual one-day tournament against players from the Anglo-Maltese League Club of Valletta, last Saturday, March the 9th, 2011. This annual tournament alternates venues between Malta and Gozo.

The Gozitan seniors won the tournament after a decider frame, as the normal round of six matches saw the players from both contingents equalise 3-3. The Anglo-Maltese juniors won their category.

The results were as follows:

Seniors

Julian Micallef vs Jason Vassallo: 0-2

Breece Licari vs Peter Pace: 2-1

Mario Brincat vs Kevin Cassar: 2-0

John Attard vs Mario Apap: 0-2

Frans Mintoff vs Dennis Bowker: 2-0

Tony Brincat vs Shaun Sultana: 1-2

Youths

Jurgen Galea vs Joel Attard: 2-3

Matthew Calleja vs Joshua Zammit: 3-0

Luke Borg vs Sean Paul Caruana: 3-0

The one-day tournament got underway at 10am. At 6pm, the Prime Minister, Lawrence Gonzi, was greeted by the Anglo-Maltese directors and met the delegation from the Leone Band Club. The Gozitan contingent was headed by club President Dr Michael Caruana LL.D., Administrative Secretary Joseph Debrincat and Mario Apap, contingent leader. A few commemorative speeches preceded the presentation ceremony in which a number of trophies and gifts were exchanged.

The Gozo Billiards & Snooker Club will be organising a 26-hour snooker marathon, at the Leone Band Club in Victoria, between the 29th and 30th of April 2011, with funds and proceeds being collected for Puttinu Cares foundation.
