Update: A search of the sea and costal area of Xlendi Bay is being carried out by the Police and the Armed Forces of Malta, following the recovery from offshore, of an abandoned fishing boat, which was flying the Tunisian flag.

The vessel was originally abandoned at Dwejra and had been towed to Xlendi by a fisherman. The police have since moved the vessel to the police yard at Xewkija.

There have been reports that Items were found on the vessel, which indicated that there may have been people on board at some time.

A full inquiry is underway.
