GTA appeals to Air Malta pilots to reconsider industrail actionThe Gozo Tourism Association said today that “it fully understands the concerns of the Air Malta Pilots, however it strongly believes that the contemplated industrial action at this sensitive time for the National Airline, will have irreparable consequences on the tourism industry in Malta. Consequences that will inturn cascade on the sister island and badly affect the sensitive and fragile tourism industry on Gozo.”

The GTA said that “the survival of Air Malta means the survival of jobs and the protection of huge investment, both in Malta and in Gozo . Whilst recognising every union’s right to defend its members, the Gozo Tourism Association is calling on the Pilots Association (ALPA) to responsibly reconsider its decision.”

“The national Airline is undoubtedly the lifeline of our tourism industry, given that accessibility plays a fundamental role for its success.” The Gozo Tourism Association went on to say that “it appeals to ALPA to reason out its claims, around the discussion table, keeping in mind the interest and security of its members, as well as of those of the thousands of others who earn their living from the tourism industry.”

Gozo does need, like Malta, a sane and stable tourism climate. While defending their rights, the Pilots also need to defend the interests of the Maltese Archipelago,” the GTA concluded.
