The stories covered in this weeks issue are:

1. Bishop Mario Grech was recently present for a special ceremony at Our Lady of Graces Sanctuary in Victoria. He led a solemn concelebrated Mass, assisted by Fr. Provincial Emm. Barbara O.F.M. Cap and Fr. Guardian Karm Dimech O.F.M. Cap. During this ceremony, Bishop Grech blessed the restored main altar of the Sanctuary and carried the Eucharist to the Tabernacle, both of which have now been returned to their place of old.

The main altar of the Sanctuary dates back to the 18th century. It was removed and replaced with a new altar in the late 1960’s after the 2nd Vatican Council and the Tabernacle moved to a side chapel. Fortunately most of the marble parts of the altar were saved and conserved.

Although it had long been coming, the decision was taken last year to restore the altar. Benefactors came forward and promised to meet the costs and Ronnie Pisani was entrusted with the restoration works.

The main altar and Tabernacle have now been restored to their former glory and rightful central place in the Sanctuary.

2. Gozo College Rabat Primary School once again participated in the drama festival held in Pollina Sicily, (18 to 21 July) as part of Comenius Regio. This year was the tenth edition of this festival Un teatro per la scuola le scuole per un teatro and was held in Pietrarosa open theatre. The Year 6 children performed the musical Alice in Wonderland. The group was accompanied by Chev Frank Gatt Gozo College Principal, Ms Anita Sciberras Head of School, Lelio Spiteri Assistant Head, George Mizzi drama teacher and teachers Noel Cremona, Ms Francelle Sciberras, Ms Ann Marie Caruana and Ms Christabelle Attard. The children also participated in the sports festival held in Finale.

3. The Mnarja Philharmonic Band recently gave a concert, entitled ‘Big Band Adventures,’ at Fr Martin Camilleri Square, Nadur. The first part of the concert, under the direction of Joseph Grech, included The Marriage of Figaro, Capriccio Espagnol, Italian Holiday Medley, The Great Escape march and The Last of the Mohicans theme, followed by The Typewriter, featuring a soloist on a typewriter accompanied by the band. The second part consisted of popular medleys and pop music played by the band for the last 20 years. These included Big Band Spectacular, The Golden Age of Broadway and Movie Spectaculars, followed by Greatest Hits of the 80s. During the concert Chris Said, Joe Buttigieg and Joseph Zerafa were elected honorary presidents of the band.
