On Friday, the19th of August, the Friends of the Sick and Elderly in Gozo ( FSEG ) will be holding a large fundraising concert at the Citadel Square in Victoria Gozo from 8:30 pm until 1am, under the title “Rock The Citadel.”
The Bands taking part are from Malta and Gozo. Some new and very talented musicians performing include Nicholas Haber, Ben Brient, Heavenly Blue and the OverOuts. Head lining the event are Fire, Eve Ransom and Hammerheads.
FSEG said that a €5 donation at the entrance would be appreciated and that no one under the age of 17 will be admitted in view of the new law on the sale of wine and spirits at open air concerts.
All the proceeds collected will be going towards the purchase of medical aids and equipment that FSEG loan out for the sick and elderly in the Gozo community. Another reason for this fund raiser is to show young adults the importance of volunteering for charity and that fundraising is necessary for volunteers to be able to help the less fortunate.
The Friends of the Sick and the Elderly in Gozo have been active since 1988. They visit and assist the sick & the elderly in hospital, in other institutions and in their own homes; they provide, donate, loan special equipment for their needs, such as electrically controlled beds and hoists, pressure relieving mattresses, wheelchairs, walking aids, commodes, etc. FSEG have donated numerous instruments and other equipment to the Gozo General hospital. They run a daily Meals-on-Wheels home delivery service in a van that FSEG donated for that specific purpose. They act as a monitoring and pressure group in the interest of the sick and the elderly in Gozo. They also co-operate with other voluntary organisations and caring entities through membership, affiliation, representation and networking.

I think this concert will serve two useful purposes:
i) as fund raising for this very active Gozo charity
ii) as a welcome addition to what is on offer in Gozo in summer and at a place, Cathedral Square in the evening where the high walls will act as a buffer to the necessary loud concert music for the enjoyment of the rockers present but without disturbing the nearby Victoria community.
