Ealier this evening, Gozo’s Emergency Response and Rescue Corps, (E.R.R.C.) lifeguards rendered immediate assistance to seven people at the Blue lagoon.
At around 5.30pm, E.R.R.C. lifeguards assisted the first person in difficulty and helped them safely to shore. Less then five minutes later another six people who were swimming needed assistance after finding themselves in difficulties from the strong rip currents,.
The Lifeguards on duty were Marthiana Vella who is the team leader, Jahel Muscat and Chantelle Mercieca. None of the casualties assisted needed further help.
The E.R.R.C said it would like to recommend that people avoid swimming in the Blue Lagoon when the Red flags are flying.
The Lifeguarding service at Blue Lagoon is being run on a daily basis until the end of September. The service is possible due to the support from the Ministry for Gozo, Eco-Gozo, Malta Tourism Authority, Transport Malta and the Civil Protection Department.

To all Gozitans
It`s time you start donating money and equipment to these volunteer clubs, then those outdated village festas. It`s ironic that you volunteer and donate time and big money in bomb making which kills more people,then drownings. Grow up and put your money, hearts and time where it`s needed. E.R.R.C and similar rescue corps need boats, communication equipment, first aid clinics even suvelliance helicpters, which I assume they don`t have yet. This is big money,but over a period of time you can achieve all this. Come on Gozitans you can do it.
