The Government has today issed the dates for the start of the 2011 autumn hunting season. It will start on the 1st of September and close on the January the 31st 2012.

The dates have been made through the recommendations of the Ornis Committee.

Hunting will be allowed from two hours before dawn until two hours after sunset on Mondays to Saturdays, on Sundays and Public Holidays it is to finish at 1.00pm

Hunters will not be allowed to shoot after 3.00pm between September the 15th and September the 30th. This action is to protect migrating birds of prey.

Hunting at sea is permissable between October the 1st and January the 31st.

The Ornis Committee has also recommended the application of a derogation to permit the trapping of quail, turtledove, golden plover and song thrush. The Government said that before this could be done, it thought any such recommendation would require further information and assessments.
