Last Friday, the Friends of the Sick and Elderly in Gozo ( FSEG ) held a large fundraising concert at the Citadel Square in Victoria – “Rock The Citadel.”

Local bands from Gozo and Malta took part, with some performances from new and very talented musicians, including Nicholas Haber, Ben Brient, Heavenly Blue and the OverOuts. The top acts on the evening were Fire, Eve Ransom and Hammerheads.

All the proceeds that were collected are going towards the purchase of medical aids and equipment that FSEG loan out for the sick and elderly in the Gozo community. The event also helped to show young adults the importance of volunteering for charity and that fundraising is necessary for volunteers to be able to help the less fortunate.

The Friends of the Sick and the Elderly in Gozo have been active since 1988. They visit and assist the sick & the elderly in hospital, in other institutions and in their own homes; they provide, donate, loan special equipment for their needs, such as electrically controlled beds and hoists, pressure relieving mattresses, wheelchairs, walking aids, commodes, etc. FSEG have donated numerous instruments and other equipment to the Gozo General hospital. They run a daily Meals-on-Wheels home delivery service in a van that FSEG donated for that specific purpose. They act as a monitoring and pressure group in the interest of the sick and the elderly in Gozo. They also co-operate with other voluntary organisations and caring entities through membership, affiliation, representation and networking.
