A special grant will be issued to families this week who benefit from some kind of Social Welfare or are on low incomes. This was announced by the Department of Social Security this morning.

The government had announced details of the proposed grant at the end of July, which is to aid these families with the cost of higher energy bills and food.

The compensation to be paid is €70 to the head of household and €35 for every other additional member of the family.
