Government taking advice on Gozo chemotherapy serviceThe Ministry for Gozo said this evening in response to the statement from the MUMN that “the possibility of offering chemotherapy services in Gozo has been discussed between both the Ministry for Gozo and the Ministry for Health, the Elderly and Community Care long before the MUMN’s original request.”

The statement continued that, “this, however, required substantial planning and the primary consideration was to offer a quality service.”

“Chemotherapy is a sensitive and delicate process where patients are under observation before, during and after the service and the provision of chemotherapy was not something which should be treated lightly,” the Ministry said.

The statement concluded by saying that “the government will take the advice of professionals as to whether it would be beneficial or not for chemotherapy to be given in Gozo. The decision is not an administrative one, as the MUMN seemed to imply, but a clinical and sensitive one and has to be considered carefully.”
