I write on behalf of many sensible people who witness a comical affair every so often at Piazza San Frangisk in Victoria
I am refering to the performance that the poor bus drivers who wants to go to the Terminus via this place, has to go through.
Only today I saw a driver waiting patiently and when the opportunity came for him to drive down Taht Putirjal (one way opposite for other drivers) a car came swinging round Triq Giorgio Borg Olivier and found itself facing the oncoming bus, of course a truck that was coming from Putirjal itself took the opportunity and got on the bandwagon faster then Speedy Gonzales. They both expected the bus driver to reverse back to Piazza San Frangisk, but I was glad to see that the bus driver refused and in the end they both had to reverse for the bus driver to come through, but of course all this took considerable amount of time which I am sure made the bus run late for it’s next journey. If looks can kill!!!! both other drivers kept looking at the bus driver as if he commited an offence.
Now I know it has been said many times before, but all it needs there is a remote control traffic lights system, wherby the bus driver would press the remote control and put traffic lights to red at Giorgio Borg Street and further down at Putirjal, Surely when they changed the terminus they should have thought of this. I live in hope.
Another practice that must cease is that of some parking boxes in Rabat are occupied with a dirty old chair as if who ever does it is claiming sacrosant right to that parking box, simply because it is outside their property. I was about to take a photo of one such chair when the lady of the house came out screaming at me, went to tell the traffic warden who instructed me to go and complain to the police station, one starts to be suspicous why traffic wardens do nothing about this practice
Never mind maybe one day we shall have order in Gozo…..

This is eco-Gozo, so who cares about the pollution caused by waiting trucks, cars and buses?
This is eco-Gozo, so who cares that the valleys are filled with old rusting vehicles and rubbish leaching their oils and other poisons into the water table?
This is eco-Gozo, so who cares that the operating theatre at the hospital is very sub-standard?
Actually, soon eco-Gozo will no longer need a hospital: we will all have died of pollution, or be so ‘healthy and in sound mind’ we would have moved elsewhere before we died!
Time for her Royal Highness Minister for Gozo Giovanna Debono to hand in her pension application.
Since years we have this problem .
A traffic light with a sensor for every bus driver is the solution !
Didi
Lesley Kreupl is so right about the sad state of Gozo but remarks about the hospital operating theatre are very worrying. Could Lesley expand on this please.
omg, traffic lights ! the majority of local drivers dont know the rules of negotiating roundabouts, dont confuse them even more with traffic lights, they will think they are some sort of decoration for a festival
Good sources say that the electrical cable for the proposed and urgently needed traffic lights on this particular site in Victoria, has already been laid under the newly constructed pavement.
It seems that T.M. is waiting for the go a head . Someone who only himself knows when is the proper time to give the SIGNAL.

@Colin Vale
It was a comment I heard from a very reliable source and one which I will investigate further on my return to the island at the end of the month. With regard to the hospital, are you aware that the much-quoted state-of-the-art CCU department has been funded entirely through donations and hard work by a few locals and expats, and that the Ministry had nothing to do with it? Yes, the situation on this island is very worrying indeed, especially with regard to the Ministry and its queenie.
@ Comment no.5, whatever your name is. You also think that gozitans still wear sheep skin and have dinosaurs for pets. Who the hell is it you think you are to do the thinking for others!!!!!!! Do us a favour, crawl back under your overheated rock.
@gozoroo,kangaroo,scoobydoo or whatever your name is, can you honestly say that driving standards canot be improved here ! the fact that a few years ago half the driving test examiners resigned when one of them was found to be taking back handers to issue pass results, its anyones guess how many people never passed a proper driving test, and they certainly drive with no fear of causing accidents or consideration for other road users, and with regard to thinking for others, when driving you have to, because some drivers have no idea what they are doing,
With the exception of John Camilleri and Didi none of these responses has anything to do with the the jist of the letter.
What has the hospital, Eco Gozo, Giovanna, insulting the driving fraternity of Gozo or personal attacks got to do with the price of onions?
Honestly if you want your own propaganda or a different subject then write your own letters.
The problem with buses traveling from St Frances Piazza, going the wrong way in a one way street, is not a new one. It has been going on for years. There is a sign which states one way “except for buses”. There is also a mirror which you are suppose to check before you turn left, past the bus terminal. Myself being an Advanced Driver, from the UK, takes into account all the surroundings, and in such curcumstances making sure that the road is clear, before procedding from a side road on to a main road, its called observation, and awareness. But perhaps one day who knows we will have traffic light at this junction, before somebody smashes into the front of a bus.

I guess your name should be Mickey Mouse.
