Youth for the Environment (Y4TE) is currently celebrating the European Shark Week to instill awareness about sharks.
The European Shark Week takes place every year and this year it started last Saturday and runs until this Sunday, the 23rd of October.
The idea of this week is to recognise the importance of sharks in the world’s marine biodiversity and the fact that due to over-fishing and hunting for their fins, sharks are not as common in numbers as they used to be.
Last year a majority of MEPs signed the Written Declaration and the target of this year are the fisheries ministries in EU member states to make sure that the current EU Finning Bans are closed. Youth for the Environment (Y4TE) urges you to sign this petition http://sharkalliancepetition.org/.
Youth for the Environment and Malta University Film Club are organising an event in celebration of European Shark Week. The event will take place on Wednesday, the 19th of October at Melita Gardens at 7pm. A documentary ”I shouldn’t be Alive” will be showed and a discussion will be held after. Join in and voice your opinion and see what others have to say on the matter!
