Encouraged by the successful organisation of educational and leisure activities for all the family over the years, Heritage Malta is once again inviting the public to Life at Sea at the Malta Maritime Museum in Birgu.
This year’s edition focuses on life at sea throughout the ages, with re-enactments of maritime life in Malta between the 16th and 19th centuries, that is, during the years under the Knights of St John, the French and the British.
Participants will get to know more about the experiences at sea of sailors and passengers alike, with special emphasis on the food and beverages consumed at the time. They will also learn about the maritime lifestyle as documented in various diaries of the epoch.
Several activities will be organised in the museum including the firing of cannon and muskets, and military drills. Visitors will have the opportunity to eat typical Maltese food associated with life at sea and cooked as documented in recipes at the time. The Aurora Trust will be screening exclusive footage of underwater wrecks whilst visitors will have the opportunity to talk to members of the Maritime Squadron. In another part of the museum, Heritage Malta personnel will be conducting maintenance works on an old boat. Boat-model building demonstrations will also be given. Children will have the unforgettable experience of knowing what they would have looked like at the time of the Corsairs in Malta when having their face painted.
The event will be held this Sunday, the 31st of January, at the Malta Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa between 09.00am and 5.00pm. Tickets can be bought on site at the price of €5.00 for adults, €3.00 for senior citizens and students. The reduced rate of €2.00 applies for Heritage Malta members, AFM employees, members of The Friends of the Maritime Museum and Dockyard workers. Entrance will be free for children under 16.
