The Gieh Ghawdex Awards Ceremony forms part of the programme of events organised by the Circolo Goztitano on the occasion of Gozo day, which falls on the 28th of October.
Gozo day commemorates the day when Gozo was liberated from the French occupation, as a result of which Gozo, for a brief beriod of time, gained complete autonomy.
Despite the bad weather on the day, at 5.30pm, the Vizitazzjoni Band of Gharb played festive band marches from Independence Square up to the Cathedral Square.
At 6.00pm a Solemn Concelebrated Mass was held. This was led by Cathedral Parish Archpriest Mgr Joseph Attard in the absence of H.L. Bishop Mario Grech who was away on his pastoral visit to Australia. During this celebration, a special message for this occasion by Bishop Grech was delivered.
After this mass, members of the Scout Group paraded from the Cathedral Square to Independence Square where a reading of literature and poetry was held.
The ceremony ended with the laying of wreaths in front of the monument of Archpriest Saver Cassar who led the Gozitan revolution against the French.

Congratulations Consigila, well done. My daughter and I were so impressed with your work. regards, Catherine and Jessica from Australia (we visited you last month)
Yes congratulations indeed Consiglia, I can assure that all of Sannat and Gozo are very proud of what you achieved. When the lace work became a dying pastime, you took over and renewed interests and it is now very popular again all through the hard work you did to keep this tradition alive. Wish you continued success
