The Gozo Tourism Association said in a statement this afternoont that it “would like to commend the initiative announced earlier this week by the Malta International Airport to waive the landing fees for all scheduled airlines flying to Malta for this Winter.”

“The Malta International Airport, as a major stakeholder in the Tourism industry, through this initiative will be effectively enhancing the competitiveness of the Maltese islands as a tourism destination during the winter period,” the GTA said.

“Access especially to small islands like Gozo, plays a major role in the sustainable success of the tourism industry and the Malta International Airport decision to further incentives the airlines will stimulate tourist arrivals to the islands during the low periods,” GTA continued.

The Gozo Tourism Association said that it “appeals to other transport providers especially those operating to and from Gozo, to take up the example of the Malta International Airport and come up with initiatives and schemes for the winter months in order to generate tourism numbers to the smaller island. Making Gozo competitively accessible will bear results.”

The Gozo Tourism Association concluded by saying “on behalf of the Gozitan tourism industry would like to thank the Malta International Airport and augurs that this positive message being sent through by this decision will reap the desired results for the benefits of all concerned.”
