The Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly and Community Care has announced that as from Monday 21st November 2011 eligible persons will be able to take the flu vaccine from Health Centres.

The flu can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia and it is estimated that between 20,000 and 40,000 people die with the flu within the European Union.

The flu vaccine will be provided free of charge to the following categories of people:

All Health Division, Health Care Professionals and other staff working with patients and elderly homes; persons residing in institutions, students attending Special Schools, persons aged 55 years and over, children from the age of 6 months to 59 months, persons of any age suffering from Chronic respiratory disease, chronic heart disease, chronic liver disease, chronic kidney disease, diabetes and any chronic Immunodeficiency state, including HIV or AIDS.

In the case of persons below 55 years of age, evidence of one of the above conditions needs to be confirmed either by presenting a Schedule V Control Card or a medical certificate.

Monday to Friday 10:00am – 1:00pm Saturday 10:00am – 12:00noon
