MEPA extends temporary permit on wind monitoring mast

The MEPA board, earlier today, approved a planning application to extend the installation of a temporary, land-based, wind monitoring mast for a further 2 year study period. The proposed extension was requested to facilitate the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs to collect more wind data over a longer period of time. The site which is located outside the limits of development at il-Ponta tal-Ahrax Marfa, limits of Mellieha will allow the ministry to collect high-quality wind data.
The Board also approved a development planning application for the construction a yacht marina in Kalkara Wharf . The yacht marina, which is permit for a 8 year period, will be set up by a private company which reached an agreement with the Transport Malta to operate this marina. The marina will consist in three floating pontoons, a walking pontoon, and three gangway giving access to the pontoons. It will accommodate 128 yachts and will be accessible by means of security gates. As part of the planning permit conditions, the Board requested the applicant to contribute €15,145 towards the Urban Improvement fund for the area. Through the UIF fund, local councils and other agencies, can propose projects within their locality that seek to improve the quality of life for residents.
The MEPA board refused two applications for reconsiderations to sanction agricultural reservoirs and other illegal development at Triq San Pawl tal-Qliegha, in Mosta.
