Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar (FAA) is concluding its very successful retrospective art exhibition currently being held at the Italian Cultural Institute with a talk on how the public can care for its paintings, polychrome (painted) sculptures and works of art on paper such as drawings, engravings and watercolours.
As part of its commitment to preserve cultural heritage, FAA has invited professional conservators-restorers Joseph Schiró and David F. Bugeja to give presentations on modern conservation and restoration methods and to inform the public on how to care for their pieces of art by following simple and effective guidelines.
Veteran conservator and lecturer Joseph Schirò will give a presentation on ‘Caring for Your Works of Art on Paper.’ He will be demonstrating that the preservation of such delicate works of art is only possible through intimate knowledge of the artwork, its material composition and its environmental setup. During the lecture, examples of mistakes and pitfalls will be demonstrated and later discussed with the audience.
This will be followed by a presentation on ‘Caring for Painted Treasures’ to be delivered by David-Frank Bugeja. David is a conservator-restorer of paintings and polychrome sculpture and works at Heritage Malta. He will present the audience with simple and practical measures that can protect paintings and painted sculptures from damage and rapid deterioration. The scope of this lecture is to disseminate advice on how to preserve painted artifacts and to show how even the non-specialists can contribute in safeguarding our cultural heritage.
The talk is to take place on Wednesday, the 7th of December at the Italian Cultural Institute at 6.30pm. Participants are requested to be seated by 6.15pm. A small donation towards FAA’s heritage and environment fund would be appreciated. Light refreshments will be served after the talk.
