Large numbers of Maltese have crossed over for the 2012 Carnival weekend in Gozo. The extra visitors will be generating extra business across the island in what is normally thought as a quiet time of the year for the tourism industry.

Large crowds visited the popular Nadur spontaneous Carnival on Friday and Saturday evening, with many also in Victoria on Saturday morning for the children’s dances, parade and displays in the Carnival enclosure in Independence Square, this scene was repeated in many villages throughout Gozo.

The Carnival activities for 2012 are continuing around Gozo today and will conclude on Tuesday evening with a grand defile at 6.00 pm along Republic Street to Independence Square, in Victoria, then at 6.30 pm there will be a spectacle of dance companies, floats and grotesque masks. The Nadur spontaneous Carnival also comes to an end on Tuesday evening.
