The Gozo Centre for Art & Crafts is currently hosting a Gilding Exhibition, which was inaugurated on the 16th of March and remains open until the 22nd of March.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr Francis Cauchi, Mayor of Ghajnsielem, who addressed the guests and said that he appreciated the precision required in accomplishing the art of laying gold leafs and the detail of the various exhibits.
Amongst the items on display were Maltese clocks, icons, frames, statues and contemporary art pieces. The exhibited art had all been executed by participants during the course in Gilding. This course trains the participants to develop and to use skills and competences to start gilding with polichromy mordants leading eventually to 24ct water laid gilding.
The art of gilding was first introduced at the Centre by Mr Mario Camilleri Cauchi and is now one of the most popular courses, with currently over 80 participants.
