Balluta residents concerned that its green lung is threatenedThe Balluta Residents Association said in a statement this morning that it has received several enquiries requesting verification as to whether MEPA has fixed a meeting to discuss the de-scheduling of Balluta Valley.

The association said that it has “now made its own enquiries and has been officially informed that a meeting has been called at MEPA for Thursday 12th April 2012 at 11.00am to consider an application by interested parties to de-schedule the valley.”

The Balluta Residents Association said that “on behalf of the majority of the residents in the area it strongly objects to any changes to the legislation dated the 4th of November, effected only 5 months ago, wherein the valley was protected and graded at levels 2 and 3. (Legal Notice 1018/2011) As stated in this Legal Notice The Valley is of Agricultural and Ecological Interest.”

“The Balluta Residents Association and also on behalf of Balluta residents strongly object to further development in the valley as this is the only green lung left in Balluta and its surroundings,” the association said.

“As our mission statement states we are all out to defend and safeguard the Valley. Quote our mission Statement: In persuit of excellence in the preservation and protection of its environment.” The Balluta Residents Association concluded.
