The Local Councils’ Association has sent 10,000 postcards to young persons in Gozo and Malta to create awareness about the EU funded project ENESCOM.
The LCA is a partner in this project with other organisations from 14 countries. The objectives of the ENESCOM project are:
Ø to increase the number of EU local communities engaged in the mitigation of climate change through the promotion and adhesion of the Covenant of Mayors’ initiative;
Ø to develop capacity building in energy sustainability and the adoption of intelligent local sustainable energy policies;
Ø To promote the integration and institutionalization of energy efficiency, saving and use of renewable energy sources within the EU local communities targeting all relevant stakeholders.
The LCA is working with four local councils, namely Qala, Victoria, Qormi and Mellieh and is in the process of completing the Sustainable Energy Action Plan for these localities.
These four localities have joined the Covenant of Mayors through the assistance received from the LCA.
The LCA has organised public events in Qala and Qormi and more will follow in Victoria and Mellieha.
A detailed leaflet on energy saving measures has been published and distributed to more than 5000 households.
The LCA will also take part in the Malta Trade Fair to disseminate information about energy conservation measures, policies and strategies.
