Over the past few months Mary Portelli has been been working in collaboration with the Bishop’s Conservatory Secondary School to create a 5 metre mosaic mural. During a brainstorming session, the students decided on a local marine scene as the subject to undertake.

Mary is an artist who loves making mosaics. It has been her passion for a number of years, using different techniques to cut and create her own artwork in such a way as to try and optimize the use of light.

Form 4 Students, their art teacher, Mr Jason Farrugia and Mary made their mosaic out of ceramic and glass tiles and other media.

The mural, ‘Mozajk taht il-Bahar – Tizwiqa tal-Hajja Marittima Madwarna,’ will be inaugurated on Friday and is mainly funded by the Kreattiv Funding Programme, which the school, as leader of the project, had presented an application for.

Mary, who is from Nadur, is also working on a 13m mosaic mural to be installed at Mgarr.
