Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party is opposing the development of virgin land in Madliena.

Prof. Arnold Cassola, said, “It is amazing how MEPA continues insisting on giving permission to the Madliena Ridge project for the building of 24 houses beneath Madliena. The project was refused permission in 2008 because MEPA considered that the original application for the building of only 10 plots contravened several policies, including MEPA’s regulations which protect landscapes on ridges.

“What was wrong in 2008 is still wrong today. So how is it that now the Major Projects Unit is saying that the Madliena Hillside is not a ridge? Has the geography and topography of Madliena changed in the space of a few months? This irresponsibility cannot continue.”

Carmel Cacopardo, AD Spokesman on Sustainable Development and Home Affairs stated that “since the development proposal was refused in 2008 there has been no change in planning policies. Only the Ministers in charge have changed. We first had Lawrence Gonzi and we now have Mario de Marco both of whom have tried to convince that MEPA, now reformed, will be of better service to the community. Unfortunately matters have gone from bad to worse at MEPA. The Authority is currently at its worst possible.”
